About Us
Sound Propeller Systems, LLC (DBA SP Systems) was established in April 2007. The company was formed to provide non-brand-specific, specialized technical oversight services and repairs for marine propulsion systems, including controllable pitch propellers, Z-drive units, bow thrusters, stern tube sealing systems, rudder assemblies, shaft lines, and other related components. Some of the equipment brands we have experience with include Bird Johnson, Kamewa, Berg, Ulstein, Liaane, Hundestadt, and Wartsila, to mention a few. Our staff comprises personnel with expertise in a wide range of hydro-mechanical components, fabrication and machining processes, as well as high-level management and communication requirements. We are a hands-on group that understands the needs of the marine industry.
The ownership has a combined 70+ years of experience working in the field of marine propulsion, which also includes the skills and ability to design, engineer, reverse engineer, reproduce, and evaluate components of many types (often obsolete and not well supported) for propulsion systems. Our quality management system is successful due to the team-oriented nature in which our tight-knit group works together. Proactive and thorough communication is a critical element of how we continue to successfully navigate all of the various projects we support. When a customer requests our service, they receive the support of a team of experienced technical representatives, even though one Field Service Engineer may be all that is physically responding to a project. We offer our field service support all over the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

- Shaft bearings (composite shaft/ rudder bearings, cutlass bearings, babbit, and roller bearings
- On site hydraulic coupling removal
- On site blue fitting of propellers and couplings
- Belzona and Enecon repair
- Thorough Reports provided with recommendations and complete service reports provided for documentation purposes

We have the ability to install and maintain your ships controls for propulsion systems including fixed pitch, CPP, and bow-thruster units, as well as mechanical systems*. Tractor drive systems, both z-drive and cycloidal systems are also part of our service capabilities.
Our team members are highly capable in the fields of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. We have an ongoing training regimen to assure your vessels safe and efficient operation. We also have extensive experience with various manufactures systems. From old to the most recent technology for your vessel’s service needs to be met.
SP Systems represents several different manufacturers in shaft seals and bearings; keeping a wide variety of options open for us to better serve your needs with no restrictions. Bonding service 24 hours 7 days a week.
